Sarah Bryant / Big Jump Press - 2007

This one has everything I like in book art: nerdy subject matter, moving parts, translucent paper, super-precise work, deep letterpress printing, muted colors. The piece isn’t a linear text one reads, more a meditation on the idea of description and definition. It’s a book about books, and, I think, a celebration of the big illustrated dictionaries that so many nerds loved in their youth.

The artist describes it as:

a book about the way we define and label our surroundings.

I think we bought it in 2009, probably from Vamp and Tramp. We’ve since talked to Sarah at a few of the Codex Foundation’s Book Fairs.
